Dr. Wada is an expert in global hydrology and food security and Deputy Director of the Water Program at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis. He is also an adjunct research scientist at the Center for Climate Systems Research. His interests include Global Hydrological Modeling, Global Water Use Modeling, Global Water Scarcity, Human Impacts on Global Water Resources, Hydrological Drought, Irrigation, Crop Growth Modeling.  His projects include estimating global water use and water availability by using the global hydrological and water resources model PCR-GLOBWB. His work also includes estimating and projecting global water scarcity, assessing the sustainability of global groundwater resources and global assessment of the sustainability of future food production under socioeconomic and climate change, and water scarcity.  

Dr. Wada is one of the recipients of the Horton (Hydrology) Research Grant by the American Geophysical Union. He has participated in a number of international projects including European GLOWASIS (Global Water Scarcity Information Service) Project, ISI-MIP (Inter-Sectoral Impact Model Intercomparison Project) and WFaS (Water Futures and Solutions). He has also participated in the Fifth Assessment Report (AR5) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) as a contributing author.
