Dr. Al-Babili's research aims to generate crops with improved agricultural performance and enhanced nutritional value. Dr. Al-Babili is experienced in engineering biofortified crops and in elucidating metabolic networks and identifying new signaling molecules related to abiotic stress and plant development. He is also heading an international consortium on combating the parasitic plant Striga (witchweed), a major threat to global food security in sub-Saharan Africa, by using novel hormone-based chemistries, genetic and modern gene editing approaches.
